A bar cart adds a sophisticated and glamorous vibe to the corner of your room.
By Jen Bishop
If you had to ask me to name a piece of furniture I would avoid with small children, the bar cart immediately springs to mind! I mean, it’s a cart, so it has wheels (and I have two young boys so I can tell you that’s a bad idea) and it houses alcohol. And fancy glassware. And items like corkscrews which could, in the wrong (small) hands, be considered weapons! But there’s nothing like the bar cart for adding a sophisticated and glamorous vibe to the corner of your room. It’s the epitome of occasional furniture. And if you’re no longer in the trenches of little kids, this is your time!
Not only is the bar cart pretty small, so it even works in apartments if you’re a downsizer, it’s also storage, so it’s practical too (just in case you need help justifying the purchase). And whether you like something elegant in brass or more simple and modern, it’s easy to find an option that either suits or indeed adds to your interior.
I’ve curated three options at different price points, whether you’re an amateur mixologist or a once a week wine drinker. The styling opportunities here are excellent, so have fun with them. Don’t just fill them with bottles; add a fancy cocktail shaker, some gorgeous glasses or a sculptural decanter.
Entry Level: The Long Island Bar Cart from Fantastic Furniture
At under $200, a compact size, easy to accommodate round shape and elegant without being too much, The Long Island Bar Cart is a great option.
Available in glamorous antique gold or a more modern black with tempered glass, it has lockable castors to ensure it doesn't move around. With two shelves, there’s plenty of opportunity to display your favourite tipples and accessories.
It’s made of powder coated steel. Available online only.
Price: $199.00
Mid range: Delaney Road Marble Bar Cart from Pottery Barn
It’s the solid marble top that takes this option to the next level and also gives it a slightly more organic look as no two pieces of natural stone are the same. The Delaney also has a tempered glass shelf below, giving two levels to display your drinks and accessories.
Castor wheels (two locking and one non-locking) make it easy to manoeuvre from one place to another and lock in place once you reach your destination. And this can also double as a side table. Bonus!
Price: $499.00 (on sale at Pottery Barn for $348.95)
Luxe: Black & Gold Bar Cart with Marble Top from Wine Stash
If you’re ready to seriously invest, do I have the sleek solution for you! This is on the exy side but it looks it too! With a beautifully curved black iron frame, green marble top and brass detailing, this drinks trolley oozes class. With multiple levels and built-in stemware racks, you can fit a lot in it.
This versatile cart is perfect for showing off your exquisite collection of wines, spirits, glasses and cocktail accessories.
